As Sam says, the third time pays for all in
this trilogy. Perhaps I'm unfair in splitting my review into three parts, as this story works cohesively through all three books. I hate coming to the ending each time (perhaps the reason I keep going back to re-read the books)--I find it very sad, yet completely right. I finished the appendices for the first time out of ten reads, and some were very good--there's a lot of material there. It's still hard to get through all the linguistics, which is my own stupidity, I suppose.
